A worked example

A pilot in controlled airspace has just had a complete radio failure. The right step is in the AIP — somewhere across hundreds of pages. AskWingman pulls it out:

Question
I'm IFR in controlled airspace with a complete radio failure. What do I do?
AskWingman

On loss of two-way radio communication in IMC, continue in accordance with the last ATC clearance and proceed to your destination. Track via the route specified in the current flight plan; descend to begin approach at the expected approach time, or as close as possible.

Squawk 7600 immediately to alert ATC to the comms failure. Continue communication attempts on the last assigned frequency, then 121.5 MHz.

If in VMC, continue in VMC and land at the nearest suitable aerodrome, reporting arrival to ATC as soon as practicable.
